On the Case: Index
In order to help readers navigate my backlog of content, I have accumulated the current stories we’re following, “Case Files”, and other series into this index. “Headlines” is for the cases we are currently following. The stories listed first are the “top stories,” so to speak, with the most recent update on the rest of the cases following that.
This is accompanied with an “Archives” section for cases that have ended but might still be of interest or I haven’t yet written a “Case Files” piece for them yet. After that, everything is broken up into sections and series are listed in entirety. This hopefully makes it a little easier to find things. I know it does for me when I need to reference past stories!
Every second Friday, I send out the “On the Case” newsletter which provides updates on current cases and sends my weekly long-form posts to your inbox. These consist of my criminal psychology series, and the “Case Files” or “From the Past” posts that accompany them. I try to keep the latter two relevant to the criminal psychology series of the time. One week will be the psychology piece, and the next will be a case fitting the topic.

When a case ends in court, questions may still remain. These articles try to answer those questions and delve into the whole story of the case, start to finish.
The Case Files: Joanne Zephir
Joanne Zephir had messed up to the point of no return and she knew it. When she arrived to pick up her two daughters from their aunt’s home on May 8, 2022, she was aware of the arrest warrant Orange County police had issued for her.
A desperate web of lies, a faked pregnancy, a henious murder, and the woman who died fighting for her unborn baby. A case so sensational and filled with details, it took me five parts to map out the tangled webs Taylor Parker wove and the psychology behind why she committed the horrific murder she did.
The Case Files: Taylor Rene Parker (Part 1)
Trigger warning: The crime scene details in this story are graphic and very disturbing. Investigators involved called it one of the worst they’ve ever seen. Please read at your own discretion. I kept most of the gory details in the first section, and there are no crime scene photos in this article.
What can we learn from looking back on certain cases? What have we learned from them? How they impact what we see play out in court today?
From the Past: Elaine Campione
The video starts off innocently enough. Three-year-old Serena and 19-month-old Sophia are coloring on the night of Oct. 2, 2006. The footage is taken by their mother, Elaine Campione, in the small apartment where they lived in Barrie, Ontario, Canada.
In this 9-part series, we explore everything from postpartum depression/psychosis/rage, to child abuse, spousal revenge, unwanted children, the history of these filicide trends, infanticide laws, and more.
Fatal Maternity: What is filicide?
Mothers who kill their children are gawked upon by society as many female killers are; with a mix of awe, disgust, and indignation that anyone could harm a child, especially their own. Is she crazy? Cold-hearted? Spiteful? A monster? On drugs? Why did she do it?
A soon-to-be series of stories about cases where women were wrongfully convicted of murder, and their journeys to convincing the judicial system, and the world, of their innocence.
Guilty Until Proven Innocent: Kathleen Folbigg
Kathleen Folbigg’s dreams of a family seemed to continually shatter over the decade of her sometimes rocky marriage. By 1999, Kathleen had given birth to four babies. All four had died in her care. Little Laura, only 19 months old, died on March 1, 1999 from what doctors initially believed to be a viral infection which inflamed her heart muscle. Kathlee…
